Do you have dry skin and nails? Let us help you.

'Tis the season, where the air is crisp and we get to wear some layers. And some family inevitably comes to town for a visit!  Don't forget to take care of yourself, as you are so busy taking care of others.  For example, managing blood pressure can be very important!

High blood pressure can increase the risk of heart attacks, strokes or other health problems. To help manage your blood pressure, you can make some lifestyle changes that can help.  See a few tips below.

  1. Being more physically active.  This is one of the most important things you can do to control high blood pressure.  It can help you to lose weight as well.  Talk to your health care provider about what activities are best for you.
  2. Maintain a healthy weight. Even just losing 5 to 10 pounds can help lower your blood pressure.
  3. Manage stress. Stress definitely can affect our bodies and increase blood pressure.
  4. Don’t smoke. If you do, stop.
  5. Eat less sodium.  Many processed foods have a lot of sodium added to them.  Check the amount of sodium on the labels.
  6. Eat more fruits and vegetables, especially potassium.  Potassium can help lessen the effects of sodium.
  7. Lower your alcoholic intake.  Alcohol can raise your blood pressure.
  8. Medication. If prescribed, take blood pressure medication.

Most importantly, check with your doctor to see if you have any problems with your blood pressure.

Of course, a little pampering from your favorite salon also aids in handling your blood pressure!  Whether you see us regularly, or are looking for some new services or products for your own routine at home, we are here to serve you!  Is your every day beauty routine ready for cracked, peeling nails, chapped lips. and dry hands and feet?  Let us help!  Your largest organ is your skin, and it is literally irritating when it is dry and scaly.  As your body heals and rejuvenates itself while you sleep, it is very important to treat skin before slumber so it also heals itself!

  • For your face, cleanse and exfoliate to deep clean and remove any traces of makeup.  Follow up with a moisturizing cream to rejuvenate your skin overnight. It is said that if you don’t remove makeup every night your skin ages more rapidly.   We like the Pumpkin Enzyme Scrub from GloTherapeutics to get the job done!  Top your lips with a swipe of our fantastic locally made Oh Wow lip balm for kissable lips.

  • For your feet, moisturizing between pedicures during the winter is a must to keep cracked heels smooth and soft.  But with so many options, what is going to be best for you?  We have a variety of lotions and potions, however not everyone needs the same type.  Even if you cringe at the thought of a pedi, ask us for a foot consultation so your feet get the at home treatment they deserve!

  • For your hands, exfoliate using a scrub once or twice a week then massage a small amount of hand cream all over. To soften and strengthen your cuticles overnight, use a cuticle oil specifically for nail enhancements. such as Young Nails Rose Oil or CND Solar Oil, both available at the studio.  Rub a small amount into the cuticles nightly.   And of course, don't forget to wear gloves as you clean or do dishes during the day. Your hands will be smoother and look younger.

To combat dry skin, you can also use a humidifier.  Turn one on before you go to sleep. It fills the air with moisture, which will help hydrate your skin.

Of course, we are here to help you fight the dryness!  Leigh has a few special seasonal treatments for a limited time.  Try a Pumpkin Enzyme Foot Peel, $40, or a Pumpkin Enzyme Hand Treatment, $15.

Show your hands and feet some love with these great fall treatments using GloTherapeutics Pumpkin Enzyme Scrub and Enzyme Peel. These products use date seed and pumpkin to gently exfoliate surface dead skin cells followed by fruit enzymes and salicylic acid to to treat dehydrated, photo damaged and aging skin. You will be left with younger looking hands and smooth feet. This treatment is followed by a decadent gingersnap body butter that contains aloe vera for additional hydration and antioxidants.  Want to make this treatment the ultimate in relaxation and hydration? Add a warm paraffin treatment!

We look forward to seeing you soon in our new awesome location inside Love is in the Hair!  Please let us know how we can best serve and help you to be stress free through the holidays.
